Absorpole - Safety and Re-cycling Instruction
The Absorpole has been designed to be safe and easy to use and to re-cycle. It is made only from readily re-cycleable PE/PP plastics and calciumchloride salt.
Calciumchloride is classified in EU and USA as being non-toxic and environmentally safe. It is the second largest constituent of seawater and is spread by the thousands of tons on wintry roads in cold countries for de-icing.
Yet the concentrated salt should be handled with respect, as it very aggressively absorbs moisture and corrodes most metal surfaces. Pure salt or brine on bare skin will dry out and wrinkle the skin and may cause temporary rashes and itches if it is not promptly washed off. Although the salt is sealed inside the Absorpole and will not be released during ordinary handling, it is recommended that hands and eyes should be protected.
Instruction of use
- Use gloves and eye protection when handling Absorpoles, especially if the poles have been used.
- If salt or brine should come into contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with lots of fresh water. If ingested, rinse mouth and drink water.
- Brine collected in the poles during use can generally be poured into the nearest available drain. Some drain owners may require that the brine be diluted at disposal.
- For maximum ease of re-cycling any unused salt may be removed by the following method: a) Place used poles in a suitably large container, eg an old waste bin or similar b) Fill bin with fresh water until the poles are covered c) Leave poles to soak for 1-2 hours d) Pour away the water e) Check that all the salt has been dissolved
- The two main parts of the Absorpoles are clearly marked by type of plastic. For maximum ease of re-cycling pull out the sprint and recycle the lower PE component separately from the upper PP component.
